The Week in Sightings: Two Orange Orbs Over Illinois, a Descending Oval in Poland and Two Silent Triangles

Four first-hand reports from Oct. 14 to 16: a pair of orange lights that hung in 30 mph winds over Illinois and vanished, an oval object descending over Szczecin, a daylight triangle that seemed to change color over Mexia, Texas, and a red-and-white-lit triangle over Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

ROUNDUP (Oct. 14-16, 2026): Every week, people look up and see something they can’t explain, and some of them write it down. Here are four reports from the middle of this week, from the Midwest to the Polish coast, in the witnesses’ own words. None comes with official confirmation. Two come with pictures. Two come with nothing but a memory.

Bright, stagnant for about 5 - 10 minutes in 30 mph winds. Vanished into thin air. Didn't go behind any clouds. First time I've ever seen anything like this. Any ideas?

At first I thought it was a B2 so I took a moment to stare at it because you dont see those very often. As I watched it, some things started to look "off"

Illinois: “Two Stagnant Orange Orbs”

Oct. 14, 7:44 p.m. CDT. The post on r/UFOB was short and to the point. “Bright, stagnant for about 5 - 10 minutes in 30 mph winds. Vanished into thin air. Didn’t go behind any clouds,” wrote u/ohkayhun, who didn’t say which town. “First time I’ve ever seen anything like this. Any ideas?”

The photo shows two bright orange lights side by side against the dark sky. It drew 127 points.

Others recognized the pattern. “It’s strange many times they seem to appear in pairs, my sighting was like that too,” wrote u/RustyWallace-357. Another reader said they’d posted a similar video more than 10 years ago.

A reader in France, u/ghostsniper33, offered an earthbound suggestion with a picture of their own: “Look like hail cannon, very common here in France.” Paired orange lights over the Midwest are also often traced to flares and sky lanterns, which glow orange and can fade out suddenly. The detail that makes this one stand out is the poster’s: holding still for up to 10 minutes in a 30 mph wind.

Szczecin, Poland: an oval that “slowly descended while hovering”

Oct. 14, 7:45 p.m. local time. On the same evening, an ocean away, someone in Szczecin, the port city on Poland’s border with Germany, filmed what the report calls an “oval object” that “slowly descended while hovering.” It was filed by u/noname_lastname0 through the reporting site ufosighting.report and posted to r/UFOs by the site’s bot.

The two replies offered the usual suspects. “My best guess is, an out of focus satellite,” wrote u/Seraph_2026. “Might be one of those Chinese lanterns in its final moments,” wrote u/Buggslondon. The reporter later linked a “clearer version” on YouTube.

Mexia, Texas: a triangle that changed color

Oct. 16, around sunset. The report lists the time as 12:00 p.m. CDT, but the account describes “evening cloud-haze” and a cloud “illuminated by the sunset,” so the clock in the form may be off.

“I was getting into my car to go to the store when I noticed something traveling through the evening cloud-haze,” wrote u/draggah_korrinthian. “At first I thought it was a B2.” Then “some things started to look ‘off.’”

  • No sound. For how low and close it seemed, “I couldn’t hear any jet propulsion, dead silence.”
  • The color. “It wasn’t black, in fact its coloration seemed to change as it passed between clouds, going from a blue-grey to a lighter grey as it flew through one cloud, then pinkish as it flew through a cloud that was illuminated by the sunset.”
  • The shape. As it banked, “it did not have that ‘missing puzzle piece’ silhouette” of a B-2. “It was a perfect equilateral triangle.”
  • Hard to see. “Almost like it was actively trying to match the colors around it.”

The witness tried to film it, but “Phone couldnt see it.” The only reply was a public service announcement: “Mexia is pronounced meh-hee-uh.”

Cedar Rapids, Iowa: red and white lights, then dizziness

Oct. 15, 10:00 p.m. CDT. “I was out on my back porch. 10 pm. Dark as hell out,” wrote u/Chantel_Lusciana in a report filed through ufosighting.report. Something made the witness glance right. “I noticed this hovering/slowly moving, triangular shape with three lights on each tip. The lights were red and then they were white. It didn’t make any sound.”

It was gone within 5 to 10 seconds, the report says. But “as soon as I noticed it, I heard this beeping sound in my right ear and this hum or buzzing sound in my head. I also got very dizzy and had this weird déjà vu feeling.”

The witness wrote of having had experiences like this since early childhood, and said there was no phone at hand to take a picture. One reply said, “I saw the same thing 8:35 pm EST as well,” without saying where.

Four places, three days, and no two reports alike. If you saw something over Illinois, Szczecin, Mexia or Cedar Rapids this week, the witnesses would like to hear from you.
