UGLICH, Russia (reported Sept. 24, 2026) — Sometime in the days before Sept. 24, three observers in Uglich, in Russia’s Yaroslavl region, say they looked up and saw bright red points of light that didn’t behave like anything they could name.

For about 25 minutes, by their account, the lights changed direction, stopped, hung in place and rotated. They made no sound. In the yards around them, the dogs were barking.

What we know

On the record: documents, statements, dates and places. Sources below.

  • The reports. Krasnodar TV reported the sighting on Sept. 24, publishing a photo that the Krasnodar media holding had posted on its MAX messenger channel. Argumenty i Fakty (AiF) followed on Sept. 25. Neither outlet gave an exact date for the sighting.
  • The witnesses. Krasnodar TV calls the three observers enthusiasts, and AiF describes them as ufologists.
  • The images. According to AiF, the observers photographed the objects and enlarged the photos, and in them they made out the silhouette of a “flying saucer.” Krasnodar TV reports that one frame showed an elongated oval shape resembling a saucer.
  • A note on the pictures in circulation. The illustration at the top of Krasnodar TV’s article is labeled as AI-generated. It isn’t a photo of the sighting.
  • An expert weighs in. AiF asked Yuri Sytnik, an Honored Pilot of Russia, for comment. His remarks are summarized below.

What’s claimed

Accounts, testimony and theories, as told by the people who tell them.

  • The behavior. According to Krasnodar TV, the three watched bright points that changed direction, hovered and rotated. AiF reports they said the objects moved, stopped and rotated over roughly 25 minutes.
  • Silence, and the dogs. The objects made no sound, the witnesses said, but dogs were barking in the yards. Krasnodar TV reports that the ufologists see that as an argument for an extraterrestrial explanation.
  • Nothing else overhead. The observers say no aircraft, International Space Station passes or satellites were recorded at the time, Krasnodar TV reports.
  • The pilot’s view. Sytnik told AiF that without good photos or film, it is very hard to say what an object is. At night, or around sunset and sunrise, he said, any object can be distorted and refracted by warm or cold air currents so that it looks like almost anything. He added that near, middle and deep space are now crowded with objects, so people over Uglich could have seen many things. Satellites such as Starlinks can descend, he said, and there may be reconnaissance craft or secret tests of new technology. Sytnik said he doesn’t rule out encounters with objects of extraterrestrial origin, but that in this case talking about that would be premature.

Red lights over Uglich

The details are few: three observers, red lights, 25 minutes, no sound, barking dogs and an enlarged frame with a saucer-like shape in it. No official body has commented publicly, and the witnesses haven’t been named in the coverage.

What the Uglich observers have is their account and their pictures. The question stays open. Even Sytnik, who ran through a list of earthly possibilities, wouldn’t close the door on the other one. Calling it extraterrestrial, he said, would simply be premature.
