'It Appears That Something Is Holding a Deer': A Boy's Photo From a Southeast Texas Bigfoot Hunt

A Southeast Texas family out searching for Bigfoot in a national forest says the oldest son felt 'a strange sensation on the back of his neck,' turned, and photographed 'a massive, dark figure standing between the trees.' The family enhanced the photo and says it shows a face, and something carrying a deer.

EAST TEXAS (Oct. 15, 2026): It was one of many nights out in the woods for this family. They live in Southeast Texas, and they go looking for Bigfoot together, in a national forest close to home, with audio recorders.

On this night, the oldest son was walking down a trail with his grandmother to set up a recorder. Then, according to the account his parent sent in, something changed.

“He felt a strange sensation on the back of his neck.”

What’s claimed

Accounts, testimony and theories, as told by the people who tell them.

The account was posted Oct. 15 on the blog of Sasquatch Chronicles, a long-running Bigfoot podcast that publishes encounter stories from listeners. The writer, the boy’s parent, doesn’t give their own name.

  • The feeling. “He felt a mix of fear and adrenaline.”
  • The picture. “He turned around and snapped a picture of the woods, capturing a massive, dark figure standing between the trees.”
  • The run. “Kayson quickly ran away, leaving my poor mom behind.”
  • Something carried. “If you examine the picture closely, it appears that something is holding a deer,” the parent wrote.
  • The enhancement. “I’ve tried to enhance the image and even created a negative version to make it more clear.”
  • The face. “You can see the cheek, the nose, bridge, and one of the eyes on this ‘creature,’” they wrote. The family’s Bigfoot friends, they added, “are amazed.”

What we know

On the record: documents, statements, dates and places. Sources below.

  • The post. It’s a reader submission on a Bigfoot podcast’s blog, not a news report. The photo is posted with it.
  • What’s missing. The account doesn’t say which national forest, when it happened (“one of the many nights”), or what time. Southeast Texas has four national forests: the Sam Houston, Davy Crockett, Angelina and Sabine, all part of the Piney Woods.
  • What happened next. The account doesn’t say whether the family went back to the spot, found tracks, or what their recorders picked up.
  • One reader reply. “That’s a frightening-looking figure,” commenter Chad W wrote on Oct. 16. “I’d hate to be in the woods at night and see that looking at me.”

East Texas Bigfoot

For people who think Bigfoot is real, East Texas isn’t a surprise. The Piney Woods are thick, wet, and full of deer, with river bottoms and creeks running through miles of national forest. Bigfoot researchers have logged reports there for decades, and Texas groups have spent years running expeditions and setting up recorders and trail cameras in exactly these forests.

The family was doing the same thing: out at night, in the woods, looking and listening.

The questions

The family was out specifically searching for Bigfoot, which means they were primed to see one. That doesn’t mean they didn’t. It means the photo deserves a careful look by people who weren’t there. A single frame, taken at night by a frightened boy turning around, then brightened and inverted, is the kind of picture that can show almost anything.

What the family has is a feeling on the back of a boy’s neck, a photo they believe shows a face, and a story they wanted to share with people who’d take it seriously. They sent it to the right place for that.
