Blue Orbs Over Chazy Lake: A Self-Described Military Witness Reports Two Pickup-Sized Lights, and Upstate New York Answers 'I Saw Them Too'
A witness who identified himself as military told the National UFO Reporting Center that two silent blue orbs, each about the size of a pickup truck, followed his car near Dannemora, N.Y., on Sept. 16, 2026, then hovered over Chazy Lake and shot straight up. When a radio station shared his account, hundreds of readers replied with their own.
Location Chazy Lake, near Dannemora, New York

DANNEMORA, N.Y. (Sept. 16, 2026; reported Sept. 24 and Oct. 1): He was driving near Chazy Lake, in the northern Adirondacks, when he noticed a glowing blue orb behind his car. That’s how the witness told it to the National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC). Then a second one appeared.

The man, who identified himself as military, said that rather than speed away, he pulled over at an overlook to get a better look. For about two minutes, by his account, the two orbs darted around and then stopped over the middle of the lake. They made no sound. Then they shot straight up and were gone.
When the radio station WGNA shared his story online, readers across Upstate New York wrote back. Hundreds of them said they’d seen something too.
What we know
On the record: documents, statements, dates and places. Sources below.
- The report. According to WGNA, which wrote up the account on Sept. 24, 2026, the witness submitted a report to NUFORC describing an encounter near Dannemora on Sept. 16. He identified himself as military. His name hasn’t been published.
- Not verified. “This eyewitness claim has not been independently verified,” WGNA wrote. The station also noted that NUFORC itself cautions that inclusion in its database isn’t verification.
- The response. After the story ran, “people from all over Upstate New York started telling us they’d seen strange objects, too, and we got hundreds of comments,” WGNA’s Brian Cody wrote in an Oct. 1 follow-up.
- Some local history. WGNA noted that Chazy Lake has had a UFO report before. In September 2015, another witness described a bright orange-red light traveling silently over the lake. The station said that doesn’t connect the two incidents.
What’s claimed
Accounts, testimony and theories, as told by the people who tell them.
As described in the witness’s NUFORC report, according to WGNA:
- The pursuit. The encounter began while he was driving, when a glowing orb appeared to trail behind his vehicle. A second orb appeared before the first moved away, then reappeared over Chazy Lake.
- The overlook. He pulled over at an observation area. The two objects moved rapidly around the area and eventually stopped over the middle of the lake.
- The size. He estimated each one at “approximately the size of a pickup truck,” and said they made no discernible noise.
- The exit. After about two minutes, the objects hovered briefly, then shot straight upward and disappeared.
- “Observation tools.” He said he wasn’t frightened. He wondered whether the objects might have been some sort of “observation tools,” WGNA reported.
‘I saw them too’
WGNA’s Oct. 1 follow-up collected some of the readers’ accounts. None has been independently verified. As the station summarized them:
- Two orbs near Lake Delta.
- An object hovering over Oneida Lake on three consecutive days.
- Something similar seen by a man and his wife in Canandaigua.
- An orb watched near Albany International Airport for nearly an hour.
- Multiple reports from Lake George, including one reader who said they had captured something unusual on a dashcam.
- Something strange over a home in Galway, in broad daylight.
- Further claims from around Cayuga Lake, North Creek, and Route 22 near Dresden.
- In Gloversville, a reader described “blue orbs floating down the street before suddenly shooting straight up into the sky,” the same exit the Chazy Lake witness described.
What are they?
WGNA didn’t claim to know. “That’s the million-dollar question,” Cody wrote. “Seeing an unexplained light in the sky doesn’t necessarily mean something from another world is visiting us.” He listed drones, airplanes, satellites, Starlink, the International Space Station, atmospheric conditions or even an optical illusion as possibilities.
“It’s still pretty fascinating,” he wrote, “how many people responded and how convincing their first-hand accounts were, all because of one strange story from Chazy Lake.”
For now, the Chazy Lake account is one man’s report of two blue lights, two minutes over the water and a straight climb into the dark. What followed was a long list of Upstate New Yorkers who say they’ve seen lights of their own.
